Alley
Alley is doing well despite her medical problems. You see, we think that Alley has asthma and untreated it has caused an infection in her lungs and around her heart. I think the previous owners were aware of this but did not inform the shelter.
Alley hates the vet, she acts violently - this is why I think she has visited a vet before on more then one occasion. I asked detailed questions and followed up after adoption and had I known about her medical condition I could have treated her and kept her from getting sick. I hope that when a cat is dropped off, past medical history is pursued. The good news is that it may not be too late for Alley.
Alley is an adorable cat, she always comes to me when I call her. She is very curious, and must investigate every new space. When I give her medicine, she hides under my bed unreachable for a day or so, but after that she is back to her ususal self pursuing attention, snuggling into any lap or arm she can find. When she is relaxed at home she is careful not to harm anyone with her claws, grapping my hand gently. She is a very smart cat. If I tell her not to do something she stops and rarely repeats the action. I never have to yell at Alley. She meows very occasionally unless she is lonely. And goes through bursts of energy, chasing flies, or light beams. I let her venture outside when I am home, and take her to the park as a treat... she loves new spaces. I really enjoy Alley, hope she is enjoying her life here too.
That's the update. Please ask detailed questions when you pick up cats, for their benefit.

Benita
Benita was adopted in May 2006 from Alexandria through the shelter's Community Cats Program.
Our new baby Benita! From what we heard, she and her sibling litter was found in a wood pile and her mom was all out of milk--the kittens had resorted to eating pine needles! This Christmas reminded me of that as I vacuumed up all the needles from under the tree. She has been a wonderful addition to our family--even our 13 year old Maggie (once an abandoned Vancouver kitten) has enjoyed her company.
Fitting named because of her little roll of the tongue sounding purr, Benita
is often found lingering at the side of a full bathtub and sleeping at the
foot of our son's bed. She is a very patient and gentle little creature.
Thank you MeowAid for all you do for the felines of the world. We are so
happy to have shared this experience with you.

Molly and Desmond
The Saga of Molly and Desmond Jones
In 1991 a marriage ended leaving three kids and a Mom with a hole in the family. After seeing a Meow Aid mall display including cats in cages, I took my family off to Meow Aid to find one cat, ONE cat, to fill that space, give us all something to love and keep our hearts together.
Walking into Meow Aid house was like a storybook description of cats cats cats everywhere. On sills, couches, chairs, tables, in cages, on the floor, sleeping, patrolling, playing, grooming. One dirty little white cat singled us out as we entered and started the ancient figure eight dance around my legs. Looking down I saw a stained and poorly groomed odd looking cat. A cat of large chin and head. More like a tiny lion then the pretty dainty purfect cats nearby.
We wanted a three colour cat. An attractive cat. One with good proportions and grace. Not this insistent runt that curled around my legs causing me to shake him so that I could move more freely to the prettiest kitties who looked at us with dramatic disinterest, coolly aware of their beauty.
Obliviously tenacity won the day and we choose the white kitty that choose us. Upon leaving, the clever volunteer offered the deal of a lifetime. Two for one. We walked out with an all white cat without a black hair and an all black cat without a white hair. We called them Molly and Desmond Jones (Obladee Oblada) soul mates to each other and faithful friends to us. Desmond and Molly lived at the centre of our family for years until racoons took Molly. Desmond after grieving deeply, survived her for years and just weeks ago died an ancient cat, so well loved and treasured in countless memories and family album pictures.

Miss Julie
Hello,
I want to share my adoption success story with you. Julie came to live with me as a foster cat in 1990. My then boyfriend and I had adopted two cats from the shelter and he pointed her out to a volunteer. She was described as "unadoptable" and had been at the shelter for 1/2 her young life. We were asked if we were interested in fostering her. He was enthusiastic but I was reluctant. As it turned out I formed a bond with Julie, who became "Miss Julie" as I soon realised that a more formal approach had to be taken with her. At first she would recoil with fear when approached, but actually loved to be pet. I spent many hours on my hands and knees under the table and dresser, and she soon came around. As it turned out she hated my boyfriend and would hide when he was home! 16 years later she is still with me (that boyfriend is not). In her old age she has some health issues, but is still happy to be alive. Her fear gradually evaporated, and by the age of 6 she was a normal cat, unafraid and social. I would encourage anyone who is patient and calm to consider adopting a more difficult case. Miss Julie has been a great friend, and still surprises me with her evolution. She went from being a timid, anxious cat, completely silent without a meow to the queen of the household, unafraid to use her giant voice for all demands !

Torie
Just a note to thank you for uniting me with "Victoria". She's a wonderful girl and we love her (and we're pretty sure she loves us too). She settled in with Simon immediately, and she even gets to kiss him once in a while. They play together every day and are good company for each other. We are all very happy.
Thank you!

Mishka
February 2005
We adopted Mishka (aka "Toby") from Meow-Aid about 2 months ago. He has become one of the family and we love having him at home with us. He has adapted very well to his new surroundings - we keep hoping that he will, one day, use the fancy cat bed and scratching post that we bought for him... In the meantime, he seems very comfortable on our bed!

Tera
Hello,
Here is the update and photo I promised of Tera. Tera is our 10 year old black and white cat that we adopted in January 2004.
She lives a pretty quiet life, takes her pets when she wants them. She's a part of the family now and as you can see she really enjoyed her first Christmas with us.
Tera loves socks and I usually find at least 3 pulled out of the sock basket and lying on the floor when I get home from work. She packs them around and meows at them until she tires of that and goes and finds a good spot to rest. I've heard it said if you want the best seat in the house, find where the cat is sleeping! That's very true of Tera. She prefers our big stuffed pillows from IKEA on our over-sized living room chair or on my pillow on my bed!
She's a great cat! We love her to bits.
Sincerely,
Karen Jolly, Jordan and of course, Tera

Tessa
This nervous wreck is 10-year old Tessa. Unfortunately her original owner developed an allergy to her and had to find her another home. Fortunately for me, I was looking for another cat after my old cat buddy Winston passed away from cancer. I contacted Meow-Aid and told them I was looking to provide an older cat with a quiet retirement home. Val put me in touch with Tessa's mom (but only after an interview worthy of CSIS applicants). Tessa, her mom, and I eventually met and we all hit it off right away.
I brought Tessa home and she spent the first couple of days under my bed. However, it wasn't long before she took over the chores of managing her new apartment. She spends sunny days in her favourite sunbeam on the deck and rainy days (and every night) under any loose blanket or pillow. Oh, and did I mention that apparently dinner MUST be served promptly at 5:30?
I was worried she might be skittish or stand-offish. I needn't have worried. She is very social with my friends – especially those who don't particularly like cats, or are wearing something that really shows off cat hair well. She has also met two very big, very goofy dogs on two separate occasions with absolutely no concern whatsoever. After an initial nose-touch – which she initiated – she simply walked away without ever giving either of them a second look. That must've really hurt their feelings because the stunned looks on their faces were hilarious! Apparently dogs are just a waste of fur and not worth her time.
I kept in touch with Tessa's original mom and assured her that her little buddy is doing very well. I'm passing that same assurance on to you nice people at Meow-Aid.
Thanks again, Meow-Aid – especially you, Val.

Davie
I adopted Davie in 2002 when he was four years old and quite the frisky cat! He adusted to life with me very easily. Recently I moved into my parent's house again to finish my teaching degree and at first my parents didn't want me to bring him. I insisted (of course!), and now Davie is the love of their lives! This year we were devasted when he was hit by a car - it was traumatic for all of us. Luckily, he made it through that and has healed up well, so Grandma takes him out twice a day on his leash and harness for a walk instead of letting him go near the road. Meanwhile, Grandpa has nicknamed him "Cheddar" and comes downstairs every morning to say hello to him. I never have to worry about someone taking care of him when I am busy. Anyway, I just wanted to thank Meowaid for the joy Davie brings us. He has the funniest personality and is always good for a laugh. Even at seven years old, he is still very playful and I love him dearly.
Thanks so much from all of us....
