A Very Rewarding Experience!
Sometimes, a cat comes into our shelter that is not ready to begin its new life in an adoptive home. These include cats that are semi-wild or born outside, have behavioural problems, are recovering injured, surgical patients, and others that are just going to need a little extra time to get over the trauma of their former lives. (We even get the odd bunny!)
That "little extra time" is what the Foster Home Program is all about. A warm, safe environment in a volunteer home provides the opportunity for these cats to have the time necessary to prepare them for adoption.
A cat brought to Meow-Aid is very lucky as we’ll do everything possible to provide a loving home and future for those fortunate felines. The benefit of the foster home program is clear to see – time. By taking care of these animals, the facilities at the shelter are freed up to concentrate on adoptions and the fostered feline will have the advantage of more companionship then they could receive at a crowded shelter.
The benefits to the foster home family are also tremendous. The pride of seeing what was a frightened or sick cat be adopted healthy, to a caring home is amazing. As a foster home, you made it possible! Opening your home is a commitment of time and resources. These can include late night bottle feeding, socializing an abused pet or one with behavioural problems, giving medicine, letting a purring cat sleep on your lap long after you normally would have stood up, and more. There is truly no other volunteer experience that allows you to give so much and receive so much in return.
